A few semesters ago I had a religion class at BYU. The professor was a smart guy who seemed to have a good grip on life. He has an attitude of humble intelligence that's so interesting. He mentioned in passing during one class that he had done some work with rental properties and as I began my real estate education journey that experience came to mind. I sent him an email to see if he could spare some time to answer a few of my real estate questions. The meet up was way better than I expected. The meeting was nearly 3 hours all about his story, some good warnings, and sound advice. I'll do my best to summarize some of my favorite points.
The discussion began with a preamble to success. His financial advice was so similar to Dave Ramsey's ideas written in the book Total Money Makeover. So familiar intact that I had to ask him if he had read the book. He told me that he had not but that experience had taught him those lessons. This professor is a 'do it yourself' kind of guy who is a jack of all traits. He can fix anything, even calls himself a cheap skate because he would rather do all the work most people outsource, himself. After explaining how important it was to get our of debt he finally go to the real estate .
